How to Find STAAR Practice Tests

Today, we’re tackling a common challenge that many teachers face – finding practice STAAR tests for their students.

First things first, let’s address the elephant in the room – the Texas Education Agency (TEA) released tests. While they are a fantastic resource, many districts reserve these tests for mid-year assessments, making it tricky for teachers to use them for practice.

So, what can you do? Well, fear not, because I’ve got your back!

One of the best solutions is to use custom practice tests. That’s right; I create practice tests and shorter chunks of important tested questions, like the ECR writing portion, specifically designed to help your students practice and become familiar with the STAAR format.

Repeat exposure to the new item types increases student success rate.

All my test prep has a digital option, which is critical since the test is online.

But it’s not just about finding practice tests; it’s also about how to use them effectively. Here are some test prep tips to ensure your students get the most out of their practice:

Consistency: Schedule regular practice every week to build endurance and familiarity. You can just review the weeks right before.

Discuss:

Go over the answers together, focusing on why certain choices are correct, and others are incorrect. This helps students see trends in what to expect.

Be open:

Talk about the test opening. Address any student fears or doubts. The more normal you make the test, the more pressure it takes off students.

Stay Positive:

Encourage a positive attitude towards testing and remind students that it’s just one day. They are more than a test.

In conclusion, finding practice STAAR tests doesn’t have to be a headache. Custom practice tests can be your secret weapon in preparing your students for success.
