Understanding the Big Picture – STAAR ECR Timeline:
Before we delve into the details, let’s take a step back and look at the big picture. Teaching the STAAR ECR throughout the school year requires a strategic approach. We’ve designed a month-by-month ECR journey, ensuring that your students are fully prepared when STAAR testing season arrives.
September – October: Laying the Foundation
The journey kicks off in September and October when we introduce the basics. We emphasize the significance of Short Constructed Responses (SCRs) as the cornerstone of ECR success.
November – December: The Art of Modeling
Moving into November and December, we focus on modeling. We demonstrate how to craft a STAAR ECR response using a proven strategy, such as RACES or any other method that suits your teaching style.
January: The Transition to Practical Application
Come January, we will transition to hands-on practice. Small groups or partner work becomes essential to ensure students truly grasp the STAAR ECR process.
February: Building Independent ECR Pros
March: Embracing the Final Stretch
In the final stretch – March – we teach students how to tackle ECRs using the STAAR online platform. Whether through scratch paper or directly typing into the answer box, students gain a full understanding of all the necessary steps.
